What we’ll do
This is where the work begins – the gateway to everything else I teach. The workshop is about finding your edges as a human-actor – the edge between known and unknown, comfort and creation, you and character. The Emotional Core framework builds emotional fluency and flexibility with precision training tools, and strips the masks back to reveal your true expressive potential. It’s holistic and sweaty, energising and empowering, dismantling and transformational.
Warning: the work includes moments of structured discomfort, with the goal of unlocking, developing, evolving. Day one is indoors – examining internal landscapes, intimacy and conformity inside four walls. Day two is outdoors – exploring emotional edges and extremity against the epic backdrop of Nature. Come as a ‘work in progress’. Leave your ‘good acting’ at home.
Your teacher
I’m Jon Hunter. For seven years I was Senior Acting Tutor and Head of Voice at Toi Whakaari: NZ Drama School – and I was New Zealand’s first Estill Voice Master Teacher. I founded the Hunter Acting Studio to take the training out of the institution: bespoke actor development through one-to-one coaching, in person around NZ and online around the world.

Good to know
Is this workshop for me?
What you need isn’t qualifications – it’s a willingness to learn and challenge old ways of thinking. If you haven’t yet acted professionally, you should have a clear intention to do so in the near future. There’s no upper age limit. And if you’re looking for somewhere to play drama games, this isn’t the place.
I’m not very active. Is this still for me?
The work is highly physical at times and asks for a degree of fitness and stamina. If you’re willing to keep going when the going gets tough, you’ll get through. If you’re nursing an injury or have physical restrictions, email me before booking and we’ll work out whether this is the right one for you.
Can I come to just one day?
No – the two days are one work. Saturday builds what Sunday needs, and Sunday finishes what Saturday starts. The design only works whole.
Can I pay in instalments?
Yes – choose the full fee or instalments when you book.
What if I can no longer attend?
Withdraw a week or more before the workshop and you’ll receive a refund less a $50 administration fee. There are no refunds for withdrawals in the final week, but you can transfer your place to another actor.
